Your Cheat Sheet to a Fool Proof Content Marketing Strategy

This week we are going to talk about content marketing and how you can use this strategy to increase brand awareness and ramp up your traffic and sales.

 

So what is content marketing?

Content marketing is the creation and promotion of content for the purpose of increasing your customer base and your bottom line. In particular, it refers to content that you publish online - there is a large variety of internet content that you can create and promote – you just need a solid plan to help you get there.

There are really only four simple steps to an effective content marketing strategy:

  1. Identify your goals: Any business worth its salt will already know its business goals, but put some serious thought into your goals for online content marketing as well. Is it to increase traffic to your website? Increase sales or to increase conversions? Once you know your goals, you can select the right type of content to create that will achieve these outcomes.
  2. Identify your audience: If you know your target audience or potential customers, you can more easily create the type of content that appeals to your buyer’s needs. Depending on your business, you may well find that males and females respond differently to certain types of content or visual media. It may be the same for younger people, people with families and retired individuals. So make sure to identify your audience demographics and then craft your content to suit their buying style.
  3. Decide on the content to create: This will depend on the type of services or products you offer and on the characteristics of your potential customers. You can try one type of content at first and then add others as you see what works and what doesn’t work for your business. A few examples of different types of content include product reviews, short ‘How-to’ eBooks, company news articles, webinars, press releases, photos, product guides, podcasts of interviews, Q&A sessions or e-newsletters.
  4. Analyse the results: Once you have decided on a strategy and put it into action, you can’t just forget it. For the best results you need to analyse the outcomes of your content plan so you can decide whether your current approach is working for you or not.

The more new and engaging content you publish and promote (to the right audience), the greater your traffic, sales and conversions.
